<title>After Effects Workshop with Dan Short at Independents Hall July 30th</title>

		<summary type="text">From our friends at:

Next Wednesday, July 30th Dan Short will be sharing his extensive knowledge of Adobe After Effects! This return of our workshop series from the spring is very exciting, and will be the first of lots of new events we’re getting fired up for this fall.

The event will run from 6:30-9pm at Independents Hall. Please RSVP on Upcoming so we can have a headcount!

From Dan:
This tutorial is meant to introduce users who are already familiar with Adobe applications to After Effects, although I am sure that there will be elements that would be valuable to anyone interested in the program. I will be showing how to animate a logo over a background using 3D space, cameras, keyframing, with pixel and vector graphics. I know it sounds like a mouthful, but I’ll be breaking it down and doing my best to answer any questions you might have. If it sounds over complicated, don’t panic. I am a nerd at heart, and it is in our nature to make things seem more complicated than they actually are.

This “Logo” type of demonstration is a common introduction into After Effects because it incorporates so many of the programs abilities. If this session is received well, I will build more tutorials based on the specific needs and wants of the Indy Hall community. I look forward to seeing you there.

If anyone would like to get a familiarity with the program before the tutorial, or would like to work along with me, I will be supplying my files to anyone interested. You can also download a demo version of the program from the Adobe site.</summary>

The migration was a success and now email functionality is also back in action.

FIrst off if you are seeing this entry with this sentence, you are hitting the new server - woot! :)

Hi all, just a quick note that we currently undergoing a migration of the entire site and its database's, mail servers, etc. to a new DV host at mediatemple.net where this site is hosted. The existing content, databases, etc. are already migrated and in place, so its just a matter of a few more configurations for other domains that point to this site, and then we are going to throw the switch on the DNS. One remaining issue will be email, as we rely on another server to handle the emails for this domain (contact form emails, and member signup verifications, etc) it will take us a little more time to get mail working as that machine will take a few more days to be completely migrated. As soon as everything is complete we will update our status, as well as put a note on the old server and new server so folks can validate they are getting the latest DNS entries. We did drop our TTL value on our DNS recently to prepare for the migration, so it should be fairly transparent.

Part of the server migration will allow us to host a more robust forum, private mailing list and some other nice additions we have planned - stay tuned!</summary>

Just a quick update to this entry. We are moving this event to later this year to accommodate getting a bigger venue, and the fact that many of our members and potential attendees are on vacation or laying low during the summer months. We have lined up some great presenters and sponsors and will be announcing more details soon - thanks for your patience. We will be having a July meeting, but on our regular scale of events - details to be posted shortly.
END UPDATE

Quick update regarding our next meeting topic and tentative timeline. We are going to be holding a video related event, getting into the nitty gritty with CDN's, Flash Media Server and a number of other Flash/video related items. The event is tentatively scheduled for the month of June and will be a bit bigger in scope and size of our regular meetings if all goes according to plan. We would have the event sooner, but planing something of this size takes a bit more time, and my wife and I were recently blessed with our second child on April 27th, so I'm taking off pretty much all of May to spend with family. When I have more info on the date and venue and other details I'll be sure to get out an update here and via our maillist.

Second item, our good friend Steve Rittler who has been the long time manager of the local Philadelphia ColdFusion User Group is stepping down as manager on May 29th, more info here and Chris Scott will be taking over as manager. Our hat is off to Steve and all the great events, and things he has done for the community over the years in his role as the manager since 2001! Well done Steve and welcome Chris!

Also, you wont want to miss Steve's final meeting on May 29th when he hands the baton to Chris - the topic is building a live chat with Blaze DS - and the speaker is Adam Lehman, ColdFusion Platform Evangelist for Adobe, this should be a good one, so come on out!</summary>

<summary type="text">Just a reminder that tonight at 7pm in Center City Philadelphia is the Adobe Flex 3/AIR 1.0 Pre-Release Event. This is the first official meeting of the new Philadelphia Flex User Group with new Manager Derek Wischusen running the show. Adobe employees Dave Gruber, Group Product Manager for Flex and Tim Buntel Senior Product Manager for Flex, will be dropping science on the upcoming releases. The official blurb:

"Flex 3 and AIR are getting close to launch and in preparation, Dave Gruber from the Adobe Flex/AIR product team is coming to Philly in January to show off the great new features and help prepare us for this exciting launch.Flex 3 is a feature-packed release, adding new UI components like the advanced datagrid and improved CSS capabilities; powerful tooling additions like refactoring; and extensive testing tools including memory and performance profiling, plus the addition of the automated testing framework to Flex Builder.

Adobe AIR is game-changing in so many ways, extending rich applications to the desktop, enabling access to the local file system, system tray, notifications and much more. Now you can write desktop applications using the same skills that you’ve been already using to create great web apps including both Flex and AJAX.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see and hear about this highly anticipated release of Flex 3 and AIR during this special pre-release tour. Plus, in addition to giving away some one of a kind Flex/AIR branded schwag, we will also be raffling off a copy of Flex Builder 3 Professional (pending availability) and a full commercial copy of CS3 Web Premium at this event as well as an iPod shuffle and other goodies!"

<summary type="text">As many of you know, the manager of the Philadelphia Area Flex User Group, Mark Belsterling, passed away unexpectedly in September, leaving a void in our community. We have been working behind the scenes to get things going again as soon as possible to sustain the great momentum that Mark had been able to generate in only a few short months.

So I am pleased to announce that Derek Wischusen has stepped up to take over the management of the group. Many of you may already know Derek from previous meetings, or from his work supporting and contributing to both the Flex and Flash Platform Groups here in Philly, as well as his own personal endeavours, including: Flex on Rails: http://flexonrails.net/ and articles on Adobe's Developer Network about Ruby and Flex: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex2_rails.html

Derek has re-named the group and started a new site: The Philadelphia Flex User Group - http://phflex.org/ as well as a google groups discussion list. So check out and bookmark the new site, and make sure you subscribe as a member to the new group if you are interested.

Derek already has a great event planned for late January revolving around Flex 3 and AIR - more details will be posted shortly here and on Dereks new site for the group. We are going to try and squeeze in a social/holiday party before the end of the year if at all possible - still working on the details on that - more to come shortly, stay tuned!</summary>
